Marketing Monday - Procrastination Isn't a Skill Set

Approximately two years ago my good buddy, Scott Bourne, started sharing a blog post every Monday, calling it "Marketing Monday". When Scott retired, I continued the tradition, always trying to have something in the pipeline for photographers to think about that related to different aspects of building more brand awareness.

Marketing Monday, isn't just a "cute name" - It's the start of a new week and for most wedding and some portrait photographers, your studios are closed on Mondays. But here's where many of you run amuck. Just because you're closed today, doesn't mean you're off. It's the perfect time to be thinking about everything you can do to strengthen your business. It's a time to just do it and stop procrastinating.

  • WPPI is a week away, have you put together your game plan? I write an extensive post every year on the topic. Don't waste time or money by not planning your trip and making sure you get the most out the event.
  • How's your website look? Again, I've written dozens of posts helping you create a stronger site, especially with your galleries and about page. Let's get rid of old mediocre images and only show "wow" prints.
  • Build a stash of blog posts. The most important aspect to building an effective blog is consistency. You need to post at least twice a week, otherwise, don't bother to have a blog. Build up an inventory of blog posts, so you always have something in the pipeline from which to draw.
  • Does your community know who you are? Scott's had a favorite expression for years, "Own Your Zipcode!" That means you have to get out and go door to door if necessary. When was the last time you knocked on a few doors of businesses in your community?

Okay, there are four bullet points from a list of hundreds of items to help you make 2015 one of your very best years, but you're the only one who can take control and get the job done.  Remember my Nelson Mandela quote from last week...
"It always seems impossible until it's done!"
