The Tamron Theater

"All of us tend to think of Tamron as a great manufacturer of optics. Let's face it, they make GREAT glass, but there's another aspect to Tamron's incredible presence in the industry. They believe in education and support for photographers who are working professionals, aspiring pros and serious hobbyists. They're all about helping you with the quality of every image you capture, from their workshops and Tailgate Tour to tech support online, Customer Service and all of their educational material.

In the Tamron Theater we're sharing videos, podcasts, guest posts and images from some of the very best artists in the world.

Welcome to the Tamron Theater!"

Welcome to Tamron Tuesday - there's a lot of great information in this video by professional photographer and iHeartFaces co-founder, Angie Arthur. She's sharing some great tips for photographing "real moments" of children.

While some of you, as working professionals, might think this video is too basic, I've been on so many pro sites where some artists could use a good basic review on lighting and composition when working with kids. Some of Angie's tips are perfect for a "Day in the Life" on location shoot as well. This is really good stuff.

A big thanks to Tamron USA for so much great educational content on their YouTube channel and a never-ending commitment to helping photographers raise the bar on their images.

Intro by Skip Cohen

Erik Valind is a freelance photographer
, specializing in commercial lifestyle photography and environmental portraiture. We've got a great podcast and guest post coming up next week with Erik, thanks to Tamron USA.

In a recent phone conversation with Erik, he talked about the importance of building a relationship with each subject as he works to capture the most natural expressions. He mentioned a shoot he did with Josh Groban. The more fun they had on the shoot, the more Josh relaxed and the better the images.

Erik sent me the link to the behind-the-scenes video of this shoot for Yamaha with Josh Groban. It's worth watching, just to see the set up and the interaction between Erik, his team and Josh. You'll also notice Erik working with one of his favorite Tamron lenses, the 90mm.

Stay tuned to the Tamron Theater, SCU podcasts and guest posts. There's lots more coming with Erik!

Most of us think of Tamron as a manufacturer of great glass, but they're also an incredible educational resource. Each of these short Tech Tips, in just a few minutes, can add a wealth of information and help raise the bar on your skill set.

I can already predict that many of you will think this is too basic for your skills as a professional, but consider it a refresher course. Plus, it just might give you some unique ideas with your skills at the next wedding you photograph.

Andre is having some fun with a night time landscape, but the concept would be just as effective with a bride and groom on a summer night. It might just be time to add a couple of flashlights to your camera bag!

The Tamron Crew is on the road all year long and their whole goal is to help as many photographers as possible. Just click on the link below for the schedule for your area.

Tamron Tech Tip: Event Photography with Melanie McLean

6/3/2014

After so many years of being involved in professional photography, I'm still amazed when I meet a photographer who just doesn't get it...in this case not taking the time to understand event photography. Event photography gives an artist the potential to be a storyteller in the same way a wedding does and it can often be even more fun. From the details to the people involved, you've got a chance to create an album, e-hybrid slide show and individual images for the attendees. The more creative you can be, the better the surprise for the attendees and the event organizer.

I love this video from Melanie McLean because she's packed a lot of information into just three minutes and given you some things to think about at the next event. A big thanks for Tamron USA for another classic educational video and their Tech Tips series.
