Now into SCU's fourth year, most of you are aware I'm a contemporary "town crier". Only instead of wandering the streets in the 18th century shouting, "Hear ye, hear ye," I'm sharing ideas about marketing, business, presentation and now and then, even technique all on the "streets" of cyberspace. My sources for the material I share come from just about everywhere, including photographers who I meet, conferences I attend and often friends on Facebook and Twitter.

My good buddy in Boston, Brian Malloy, sent me the link to the video below, and I loved it. Within a minute of watching it, I sent a note to Trish Hadley and asked for permission to share it, but I want to explain my reasons because it's a significant list!

  • Pay attention to the quality of the video and the way Drew Mason has told the story. It's a testimonial to his skill set as a videographer, storyteller and editor.
  • Listen to what both Melissa and Cortney say about having a portrait session with Trish. Tim Walden, in a podcast with me on Weekend Wisdom last year, talked about the importance of making a portrait session an experience.
  • Think about the power of a behind the scenes video like this. It's an incredible story and Trish has done a terrific job of making sure people know she's an artist.
  • This is one of the best examples of what separates a true professional from the rest of the market. It makes the point loud and clear that Trish is a photographer, an artist, a storyteller and most important of all, a relationship builder.  I've written about the importance of relationship building numerous times before. It's your most valuable marketing tool!

Interested in seeing more of Trish's work from the session? Just click on the portrait above to read her blog post about Melissa and Cortney.

A big thanks to Trish Hadley Portrait and Drew Mason Video for allowing me to share this video. You guys make me proud to be in the industry. Nicely done!

This is one of the best promo videos I've ever seen done by a professional photographer.

Great story and about the value of portraits and the essence of what we do: the experience is what makes you difference and the value of clients' investment. Otherwise, they'd go to the mall and, what I think many photographers miss, mall clients are not your clients. Don't worry about clients you really don't want. 'Really enjoyed this production and all it has to say ...
