Welcome to Adorama Central

Over the last few years, Adorama has become one of the leaders in online education with shows on Adorama TV like Tamara Lackey's reDefine, Joe McNally's Photo on the Go, Mark Wallace's Exploring Photography , Rich Harrington's DSLR/Video Skills, Bryan Peterson's You Keep Shooting and Gavin Hoey's Take and Make Great Photography.

There are workshops all year long and an extensive collection of great articles, videos and product reviews. It's all happening in the ALC - Adorama Learning Center.

Adorama is in the SCU house and we're going to be sharing new as well as some terrific archived content to help you build a stronger skill set and business model.

Going back to my Hasselblad days and working together with Tony Corbell to build Hasselblad University, I learned the importance of being soft-sell along with developing great partnerships. I realized early on that everyone knew about Hasselblad. So, we focused on helping photographers build a stronger skill set. We knew if we could help make them stronger artists, they'd increase revenue, strengthen their business and eventually buy Hasselblad gear when they could afford it.

Adorama's focus on education is very much the same, except they have something we didn't have back in my Hasselblad days: the Internet! Their reach is remarkable, but not just for viewers, but within the industry with terrific manufacturer and supplier relationships. Their expanded focus on education through the new Adorama Learning Center offers artists what might well be the largest industry resource of videos, posts, and webinars in imaging today. They cover virtually every topic, but they don't stop there.

LIVE programming is important and just about every week there's something going on in their store. Here's a perfect example:  Tony Gale is an outstanding, award-winning portrait photographer and on Monday, June 27 he's teaching two workshops thanks to X-Rite Photo & Video and Adorama. It's FREE, but you need to register. He'll be teaching at 3:00 PM and again at 5:00 PM - LIVE in the store.

Whether you're a working pro, aspiring to be a pro or a dedicated hobbyist you've got to learn to manage color. Just eyeballing it and saying, "That's good enough!" will NEVER help you in your quest for the ultimate image.

I had some fun wandering through Tony Gale's galleries and pulled a few personal favorites below. Check his galleries out for yourself, by clicking on any image. Then, if you're in the NY/NJ area put his workshop on your calendar for Monday at Adorama. You won't be disappointed. And, when it comes to color calibration, check out X-Rite Photo & Video. It's so important to put the same quality into your output that you do into the capture of every image!

I'm a huge fan of environmental portraits and loved these two images from Tony's galleries. A great environmental portraits tells the story of the subject without a single printed word and color quality is a huge part of making that story work!
