A Terrific Reminder - Making Prints

It's just a two-minute tip, but it's a perfect reminder that we still live in a tactile world! In this new clip, David Bergman shares the perfect reminder this time of year about giving prints as gifts to clients and associates. Why do I think it's perfect this time of year? Because for most of you, it's still the slow season and the perfect time to select some images for making prints.

I'm a firm believer in the concept, which is why my home looks like a gallery. Over the years, kicking off in my Hasselblad days, I started collecting prints. Remember, back then there was no digital technology, so when somebody wanted to say "thanks" or just share some images, actual printed work was the only way. So, our home is loaded with prints.

What's amazing is the response visitors have to a home filled with photography. It's just not something people see very often, and each print has a story behind it.  For example, the two images on the right are by David Michael Kennedy. He had borrowed a Hasselblad lens and sent me these two prints as a thank you. They're both signed and two of my favorites.

The other image is the wall of my office. There's a story behind each print. From Steve McCurry's Afghan Girl to a print Jerry Ghionis entered in WPPI print competition and Virginia Adams with Ansel's Cadillac and his rear license plate, every print represents a milestone point in my career.

David's message in this video is the perfect reminder to share your most favorite images. What better way to say thanks to people who have been helpful to you or simply to share with good friends?

Just one reminder, though, always sign them.  When Joe Buissink and I wrote his last book, he talked about how he always gives a framed print to his bridal clients when they come in to review their images. It's a special way he can surprise them, and he always signs their print. Why? Because he wants to remind them, he's an artist, not just a photographer!
