The video above is from the X-Rite Photo & Video archives on YouTube, and while it might be a few years old, there's nothing old about Rick Sammon's skill set as an educator. He's an X-Rite Coloratti and a good friend to so many of us in the industry.
This is one of those videos I wish I could get EVERY photographer to watch for a few different reasons. First, Rick does a terrific job of talking about color management and too many of you still eyeball your monitor with a that's good enough mentality. As Rick points out, we all see color differently.
Second, Rick does a quick demonstration of how he calibrates his monitor, laptop and printer with the ColorMunki. It couldn't be easier. As the low-tech poster child of the industry, even I can use it! And, right now there's a special promotion which includes a year subscription to Adobe's Creative Cloud. Just click on the banner below for more information.
Last on the list, even though the technology has been around for awhile, Rick gives a terrific demo of HDR and why it's such an advantage in a shooting situation like the old run down house he's chosen for his subject. Check out the range in the three images below, and then consider the HDR technology that gets Rick to the final image.
Rick says it best, "There's a difference between taking a picture and making a picture!"
