“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” Eudora Welty. by Skip Cohen Typically, I'm miles away from business and marketing on Sunday mornings. While that's still the case today, talking about old photographs might just help a few of you realize the value you bring to your clients as a photographer. Lucy is a mini-golden doodle and loves the water. Her "sister," Belle, not so much. But she loves to hangout by the pool with Lucy, and even join her with "Dad." The shot above was Lucy's first time retrieving balls in the pool. It was during the pandemic that she demonstrated being half dog, half otter! It's just a grab shot, but it brings back so many memories. Once a week, I post throwbacks, hoping to remind you that Throwback Thursday is an outstanding marketing tool. It's the perfect way to plant the subliminal reminder to "Mom" that it's time for a new family portrait. But today's post is about the pure joy of looking back at old photographs and videos. Here's my point - whether your photographs are organized in files on your computer, in shoeboxes under the bed, or on random jump drives and discs, take the time to walk down Memory Lane. Don't do it alone - grab a family member or friend and then go for a "walk." We all live such hurried lives. And while it's true that time flies when you're having a good time, the images we've captured slow down the clock and allow us to appreciate our journey. They allow us to savor those moments that went by too fast. The best way to appreciate where you are in life right now is to look in your rearview mirror. All those snapshots are triggers to memories; they make us smile, cry, and remember. And as sappy and hokey as it sounds, they make our hearts soar. Wishing you a day filled with time to savor a few great memories while at the same time creating new ones. Stay close to the people (and pets) most important in your life. More than likely, they own a piece of those rearview mirror memories, and it's pure joy when you can share and laugh about them together. Oh yeah, and don't forget those eleven-second therapeutic hugs I always write about. Happy Sunday...or Monday on the other side of the world.
