"What advice would I give a new photographer just starting out?"Learn your craft and learn every aspect of your craft, then keep learning how to do it better.
  1. Light – Understanding light is the first basic principle every photographer should know inside out and in every form. The ability to see light and how to use it is still the most powerful thing a photographer can know above all else. It will distinguish you from every other person who holds a camera.
  2. Control – Learning how to control things in photography comes in different forms. The first thing on the list is making sure you how to control any situation you are thrown into.
  3. Market – Know and understand your primary market, remember that you won't want to and can't photograph everything."
Ryan is based in Australia, but thanks to the Internet and Skype the world is a much smaller place. You'll find his podcast, now on the SCU site is loaded with good ideas on how to grow as a photographer. Follow Ryan's work through his core website, his blog and his portrait site.
