Dixie Dixon
She might be one of the youngest members of the SCU faculty, but the quality of her images and her creative spirit are a match for the most seasoned professional. Over just the last 2-3 years Dixie Dixon has become a well known name in fashion photography. She's been published in virtually every major photographic magazine and had a cover shot or two as well.
I wanted to post a few of her videos here on the SCU site because there's so much you can learn from the way each story has been told. Sure, you'll pick up some ideas about shooting "on set", but the real benefit is thinking about how you'd tell your own story in relation to the eyes of your clients. How would you build your brand?

Behind the Scenes: Shooting for Living Magazine
The lady just never slows down. Here's a new behind the scenes with Dixie. Here's what I love about these short videos - watch any one of them and then think about how you'd tell your own story? What would three minutes of watching you work look like when you put it to music and created a presentation to share with potential clients?
Behind the Scenes: Virgin Pulse
Pick any of the following words, "passion", "energy", "creativity", "enthusiastic", "dedicated" or just the simplicity of the word "fun" and Dixie redefines each one of them. Here's her latest in her Behind the Scenes series and it's a show stopper. If you've worked with Dixie, then you know what I'm talking about. What I love the most about each of these videos is the way it defines her level of expertise.
It's the same question I ask every time, "How would you tell one of your stories?"

Behind the Scene: "Le plus beau du quartier"
by Skip Cohen
I keep finding these videos that Dixie has produced and sharing them with you in the hopes that more photographers will realize how many ways there are to tell your own story. It doesn't matter what your photographic specialty is - the challenge is being able to share your passion with your target audience and let them see the love you have for the craft. People hire you because of your passion. They hire you because of the "why" you're a photographer, NOT because of what you do.
Watch this new addition to Dixie's video library and then think about how you might tell your own story of a family portrait sitting. Think about how you'd present your own excitement in getting ready for the sitting. How about a wedding? How would you tell your story as you prepare to capture the start of a new family and their story?
