Remember when a troll was a mythical character from a story book your grandmother read to you? Oh, to be back in those days. Sadly, trolls today are no longer a fantasy, and they can have more impact than the characters you see in an episode of Grimm! However, in defense of trolls, the reality is, when any of us feel our principles have been violated, we all have the potential to turn into trolls. For example, after the nonsense with Facebook and fighting for the right to use my name, "Skip", I'm sure I'm on their "troll list". The two posts I wrote are up over 5000 reads and based on all the stories I've heard, Facebook's policies continue to upset members whose names are different than John, Sally, Linda, Bob, and Larry! Think about it, based on their policy Cat Stevens and Tiger Woods would both have to fight for verification! Unfortunately, the challenge goes deeper than the name policy, and is fueled by the fact that it's so difficult to actually talk/connect with a live body! Here are a few things to think about when you're under attack by a troll:
This is a short post and here's my point. We all have the potential to be trolls now and then. Listen/read before you respond and then take the appropriate action. Most important of all, ignore those trolls who think they have a right to your time. The only person truly entitled to 100% of your attention all the time is you!

Without publicity a terrible thing happens...NOTHING! P.T.Barnun It's time to get back to my original list of key components for building your business and number six on the list is "Publicity". Publicity comes in all shapes, sizes and locations, but it's up to you to create the buzz! I'm still amazed at photographers who look at their competitors and think the story they're reading in the local paper or online is completely random. Rarely is anything random! It's Marketing Monday and the perfect time, especially since this is the slow season for most of you, to think about publicity moments. Publicity is all about exposure for you and your business. It's a key to building a solid reputation and brand awareness. Some of the synonyms for "publicity" are public attention, public interest, public notice, media attention/interest, face time, exposure and limelight. Pick any one of them and it's not about who you know but who knows you. Publicity gives your business and advertising credibility. Let's start with one obvious tool to help generate publicity.Never be without a camera. You don't always need to have your main gear with you. While I know cell phones do a lot these days, I still prefer a decent point and shoot with more flexibility for a decent shot. You want a camera with you all the time because you never know when something is going to be worth capturing that puts you in the "limelight."
No one blog post can cover everything you need to do to become your own publicity machine, but at least these points give you something to think about. Most important of all, you know how to hold focus on your subjects. A great publicity campaign is about holding focus on your business! Publicity is absolute critical. A good PR story is infinitely more effective than a front page ad!'
