Welcome to the first podcast in a new Spotlight Series from Photodex and SCU. Over the next few months, we're going to be sharing advice from some of the very best artists and business people in photography today. Each new episode has one primary purpose, to help you build a stronger business.
Sal Cincotta kicks off the discussion talking about his philosophy of being competitive. Take a second and think about how that word fits in the framework of your own business. As Sal mentions, this isn't about being in somebody's face. It's about having pride in what you're doing. You've got to think through how you're perceived in your community/market and what makes you the very best. It's about your skills, customer service, creativity and how you're going to stand out from the rest of crowd.
I love an idea Sal planted in this podcast. It's about the importance of being a student of business. As photographers, you're used to looking at images in magazines, newspapers and on television, always checking out the lighting, composition and exposure techniques, but Sal talks about the importance of looking at other businesses. Every business out there holds value in helping you build your own model, especially when you look at the things so many companies do wrong and learn from their mistakes as well as your own.
Technology is constantly creating new tools to raise the bar on your technique, expand your reach and offer your clients new and creative products that help you build your brand and your business. A big thanks to Photodex for their never-ending quest to provide the industry with new products to help make your images unique, including educational posts and this new series. You can check out more of Sal Cincotta's work in the video below, and you'll find even more on his website and at Shutter Magazine and ShutterFest 2016.
